St. Mary's Church
Visiting our Church is the only option! We are easy to find – follow the road signs from MOLD to Nercwys, we are at the south end of the Village Road.
We are an Anglican Church in Wales Christian community, and worship has been uninterrupted here for many hundreds of years. Our main weekly service is at 11.15am on Sundays with other festivals etc as announced. We welcome everyone!
In the Church you are welcome to browse through a booklet which details the history and points of interest. In brief, you are seeing a Church dating back to the 1100s AD. The oldest part is around the tower base, where there is a clearly visible Norman arch. Radical alterations took place in 1847 and again in 1883, when a transept and a small chancel were added. Many fragments of the medieval structure are still evident, with the headstone of a Norman window and a holy water stoup being on display. The most notable treasure is the “Cadr Fawr” (“Big Chair”), part of the ancient rood screen – richly carved and highly painted. The carved oak pulpit is from around the same period.

Ecclesiastical administration dates back to the times when Nercwys (then known as “Nerquis” was part of the “ancient chapelries” of Mold. Since those times Nercwys has been variously associated with neighbouring parishes such as Llanferres, Treuddyn and Eryrys. Treuddyn’s present Church of St. Mary dates from 1874 – there you will see ancient glass, unique in the UK. The Church of St. David at Eryrys is now closed for regular worship, and the building of 1863 has been renovated and is in use as a community venue.
The Parish Church of St Mary's is grouped with Treuddyn and Pontblyddyn to form part of the Mission Area of Mold, in the Archdeaconry of Wrexham and the Diocese of St Asaph.
