The
new village school was constructed in 1871 and is well
situated, near to St. Mary's church. It is built of red
brick with white stone facings. The school provides a
means for educating local children as well as children
from villages further afield. The Village school
has grown in stature over the years and teaches a wide
range of subjects. The school also takes advantage of
the school playing fields which are in close proximity
and allow the children to enjoy many sporting games as
well as providing a location for Sports Day which is
enjoyed by many in the village.
In
1908, the teaching of the Welsh language was introduced
into the school curriculum at Nercwys. It is still
deemed today as an important subject to study as it
allows the Welsh language to continue to thrive.
